Hacking in Richmond Park
We are so lucky, riding in Royal Richmond Park, 2,500 acres of glorious parkland. Ride across the meadows and through the woods, enjoy the wildlife as well as the riding, ride for an hour or more to relax and shake off the stresses of work. In the worst of winter weather we are still able to enjoy riding on the all weather tracks. The Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a National Nature Reserve, so it really is special. You’ll be riding experienced horses with an escort who knows the Park well. It’s a great opportunity to get close to nature, to relax, and enjoy yourself.
We offer hacking every day of the week except Mondays (which is a rest day for the horses) so if you find yourself with some time to spare, why not give us a call and book yourself a hack?
Our hacks are for more experienced riders only – you need to be able to walk, trot and canter and ride in a balanced and controlled manner. If you are not ready for hacking just yet why not book yourself a lesson or two, and start working towards your goals!

Children’s Pony Rides to the Park
Younger children can also enjoy the Park with a pony ride. We have adorable Shetland ponies, with perfect manners, suitable for children aged two and a half upwards, and bigger ponies for a brother or sister up to the age of about seven years. It’s a perfect way for the little ones to start their riding career.
Own a Pony Courses
We hold Own a Pony Courses every holiday and it’s a great way for children to learn – and we offer it at a special price. Group sizes are small so you need to book early.
Our summer courses were a sell out, with lots of new young riders having a wonderful time with our lovely ponies.
Courses comprise four afternoons, 2.00pm to 4.00pm, for 6 -10 year old beginner riders. It’s an hour of riding and an hour of stable management. Children who have started to read and write on their own will get the most out of it. It’s a great way for children to learn about looking after a pony as well as riding, and we find this builds up their confidence.
The next course will be in the Christmas holidays, watch out for dates.
At £140 it’s a bargain!

Lots of children are keen to come and help look after the ponies. If you have a child who is serious about helping they need to complete a Helpers Course first so that they learn the correct way to carry out all the basic tasks such as grooming and tacking up. Above all they need to learn how to work safely around ponies and horses.
The course is not for complete beginners; children are expected to have some prior stable management experience if they are to pass the final assessment. Please talk to us if you are not sure whether your child is ready for the Helpers Course.
The Helpers Course is run over four days, Tuesday – Friday, 10.30am to 12.30pm. It deals with the theory and practice of stable management. There is an assessment on the final session. If a child is successful they will become a Red Helper, and they will be able to come to the Centre to help in the afternoons. If they do not meet the standard they will need to have additional stable management lessons which will incur further cost. Sometimes a child needs to become more confident and have more practice before we feel they are safe to work as a Helper.
The next course will be in the Christmas holidays – watch out for dates!
